As we all know your mother’s food always tastes the best (tongue in cheek) but this was Grandma Kitty’s famous buttermilk rusks.
- 1 kg Self Raising Flour
- 250g Butter
- 500g Buttermilk
- 2 x Eggs
- 1 x Cup sugar
- 1/2 x Teaspoon salt
- 2 x Teaspoons Royal baking powder
Melt butter and sugar in a pot over low heat. Leave to cool down.
Add the eggs and beat until all the sugar has dissolved. Add the buttermilk and beat very well.
Sift the flour, salt and baking powder together and add to the mixture. Mix well and kneed a little bit until a good consistency.
Bake at 180 degrees for about 35 minutes. Cut into strips as required after allowing it to cool a bit.
