We recently went to Knysna for a weekend break and visited some of the restaurants in the area. Our first evening out was at Pembreys. It turned out to be a wonderful evening out. The decor is simple but very tasteful creating a wonderful atmosphere with wooden floors and a fire place that was burning in the background.
The background music was very soft which I particularly liked so I do not have to scream to my wife to make some conversation. It was after all our 25 year anniversary weekend break.
Our host Peter Vadas and his staff took very good care of us.
We started off the evening with the selection of a Delaire Graff Shiraz proposed by our proprietor and was a superb wine.
We started off with a Cauliflower and Blue Cheese soup which turned out to be absolutely delicious. I did not think that the combination of blue cheese and cauliflower could make such a wonderful soup but it surely did. We followed this with the slow roasted karoo lamb shank in herb & lamb juices which was literally a fall of the bone soft and very tasty dish.
To round the evening off I selected to home made ice cream which consisted of Chocolate, Cardamon, Caramel and Salt and Honey balls of ice cream. Boy was I surprised. It tasted exquisite. I never imagined ice cream made with a Cardamon flavour and it was delicious along with all the others. My poor taste buds were walking around heaven.
Final verdict : If we ever visit Knysna again I will most certainly make a booking and enjoy Pembreys again.
